The Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) is urging Nigeria to lean on tools like drone surveys, blockchain, and AI-driven mapping to tackle rising land and boundary disputes.
Speaking at the ITGov 2025 conference in Abuja, BPSR Director-General Dr. Dasuki Arabi noted that these technologies could finally bring clarity and speed to messy boundary issues, especially in rural areas where paper maps are outdated and land records are often disputed .
In partnership with the Nigerian Communications Commission, the Bureau is already pushing regulated systems—such as distributed ledger (blockchain) across government departments.
The idea is straightforward: create clear, tamper-proof land records that communities can access online rather than fight over after losing boundaries on poorly maintained paper maps .
Dr. Arabi also pointed out that automation and smart mapping tools—when applied with local context in mind—can help close service delivery gaps in remote areas.
He also added that streamlined digital land registries aren’t just tech fancy; that they’re a lifeline for preventing conflict, enhancing transparency and improving access to secure land ownership across the country.
