At the 2025 International Civil Service Conference in Abuja, Galaxy Backbone unveiled the 1Government Cloud Academy, a new training initiative aimed at equipping civil servants with vital digital skills.
The launch was attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, members of the Federal Executive Council, diplomats, and public sector workers nationwide.
The goal is to support Nigeria’s transition toward a fully paperless civil service and improve collaboration across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
As part of the program, selected civil servants particularly ECM Project Managers, will become “transformation champions” in their departments. These champions receive technical and soft-skills training to serve as in-house users who help colleagues adopt and trust new digital tools.
Mr. Wumi Oghoetuoma, Programme Director of 1Government Cloud, stressed during the event: “Many digital solutions have failed not because they were ineffective, but because users didn’t trust or fully understand them.”
The initiative also includes training for IT staff and email administrators on the use of GovMail, the secure government email platform, with over 300 civil servants already scheduled for capacity-building sessions.
President Tinubu highlighted the strategic value of public data, calling it “the new oil,” and urged MDAs to protect it under the Nigeria Data Protection Act while sharing verified data to enhance transparency and international benchmarking.
